Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Acute Infection Blood Test

This panel contains the following tests:

  • Antibodies to the Epstein Barr Early Antigen (EA) IgG

  • Antibodies to the Epstein Barr Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA) IgG

  • Antibodies to the Epstein Barr Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA) IgM

  • Antibodies to the Epstein Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA)

This test is used to detect a suspected Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) acute infection. EBV is a herpes-type virus which is the cause of classic infectious mononucleosis.

EBV is causally implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic fatigue syndrome, Burkitt's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinomas, and rare hereditary lymphoproliferative disorders.

Instructions
